Richard Kissack was born on the Isle of Man in 1894. By 1901 his parents William, a farmer aged 45, and his wife Clara, had moved to Saughtree Gate, Carlatton, Brampton, Cumberland with their son Richard, now aged 7. By 1911 they had moved to West Crawcrook, Ryton on Tyne. By this time they had had 13 children, of whom two had died. Both William and his son Richard are recorded as coal miners. William died 3/5/1922, when his address was 26 Victoria Street, Newcastle. His will was executed by Alfred Smith, accountant; his estate amounted to £1,427. 10s 2d.
Richard enlisted in Newcastle. His war service record shows him living at 804 Walker Road, Newcastle. He was 6 feet ½ inches tall and worked as a steam wagon driver. He was awarded the Victory and British Medals
Richard Kissack is remembered on the Lychgate at St.Michael’s Church, Ainstable, Cumbria, and in Elswick on E35.03 and E35.20
