In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of TR5/31086 Private John Arthur Marshall serving with the "A" Company, 8th Battalion Training Reserve, who died 25/04/1917.

John Arthur was born at Newcastle upon Tyne in the second quarter of 1899 to Annie (nee Fearnley) and the late Joseph, 41 Crown Street, Newcastle. He served with ‘A’ Company, 8th Battalion Training Reserve. He died at the Military Hospital Cannock Chase.
