Hicks, G.A., Dvr., 1939

In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of T/38377 Driver George Alfred Hicks serving with the Royal Army Service Corps, who died 08/09/1939.

The headstone reads:

My dear husband George Alfred Hicks, R.A.S.C.
died in the service of his country, 8th Sept.1939, aged 40 years.

George was born on 26th March 1899 and was the husband of Theresa E. (nee Geeling), whom he married in the fourth quarter of 1924. Prior to enlisting he worked as a joiner in the shipbuilding industry.
