George Wellden was born on 8th October 1918, the son of James Ellis and Mary Hay (nee McIntyre), of 66 Grenville Road, Gosforth; husband of Doris Maud Hay (nee Marriage) of Newcastle upon Tyne, whom he married in the second quarter of 1944. Prior to enlisting he worked as a ‘wholesale meat clerk’.
