In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 26/252 Private Robert Gordon serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 27/01/1920.

The headstone reads:

who died June 16th 1903,
aged 62 years,
also of the above
Robert Gordon
who died October 26th 1903,
aged 55 years.

27th January 1920, aged 44,
son of the above
and beloved husband of
Cissie Gordon,
also Private William Neilson Gordon,
died Feb. 7th 1936, aged 36 years.
John George Gordon
died March 16th 1952
aged 44 years.
Margaret Jane wife of the above Robert,
died ? 4th ?, aged 79 years.

Robert was the son of the late Robert and Catherine Gordon. He was the husband of Margaret Jane of 5 Maiden Street, Scotswood Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. He enlisted in November 1914 and served with “B” Company, 26th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (3rd Tyneside Irish) before being transferred to 30th Battalion. He died from appendicitis.
