Robert Henderson was born in the second quarter of 1899 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of Thomas and Isabella of 23 Tulloch Street, Scotswood. He enlisted at Newcastle with the 1st/6th (Territorial) Battalion before being transferred to 1st Battalion.
