William Kirby and Brenda McMahon have submitted the following:-
James was born at Newcastle upon Tyne (c) 1874.
He married his sweetheart, Maria Elizabeth Harrison in 1909. The couple were slightly older when they married as James was 37 and Maria was 30. After 2 years of marriage there were no children.
James was a general labourer at the Elswick engineering works.
The 1911 census shows them living in a one roomed accommodation at 51 Buckingham Street.
James enlisted and joined the Northumberland Fusiliers.He died at home on 30 November 1915 but no details of his demise can be found at present.
In 1917 James’ widow, Maria married Fred Mortimer.
Ron Carson has submitted the following:
James was born on 31st March 1882 at Newcastle upon Tyne. He married Maria Elizabeth Harrison in the second quarter of 1909 at Newcastle and they lived at 51 Buckingham Street, Newcastle.
James enlisted in Newcastle with the 1/6th Battalion and died at home from the results of a ‘bursting gastric ulcer’, acquired on active service.
James Scott is remembered at Elswick on E35.10
