Mercantile Marine 2nd Engineer S.S. San Zeferino
He was born at Durham. A Marine Engineer residing at Bishop Auckland he was Initiated on the 15th October 1913; Passed 10th April 1916 and Raised on the 7th May 1916. He died on the 26th September 1917 aged 32. The husband of Constance Fell of Briar Cottage, Northumberland Avenue, Gosforth he is Remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial, London.
The SS San Zeferino (6430 grt) was an Oil Tanker built by Palmers’ of Hebburn on Tyne in 1914 and owned by the Eagle Oil Company of London. She was damaged by the German submarine U33 51.52N x 06.25W on a voyage from Avonmouth to Tampico with the loss of three lives.
The attack on the San Zeferino happened on September 8th 1915 so 2nd Engineer Fell was not victim to that attack.
