Weightman, N., A/Smn., 1918
On Vis-en-Artois Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/6449 Able Seaman Nicholas Weightman, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 21/08/1918.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Nicholas was born on 12th February 1897. He was working as a butcher living with his parents, Robert and Cecelia at 5, North Regents Road, Gosforth when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 6th August 1915.

He was posted to the Hood Battalion in Gallipoli on 8th Januray 1916 and later served in France where he suffered a gun shot wound to the right leg for which he was invalided to the UK on 7th February 1917.

He rejoined the Hood Battalion on 27th September 1917 and on 31st December 1917 he suffered a shrapnel wound to the left hand and was invalided to the UK on 14th January 1918.

Nicholas rejoined the Hood Battalion on 8th July 1918 and was killed in action on 21st August 1918.

Nicholas Weightman is remembered in Gosforth on G9.21 and G9.22 and in Newcastle on NUT153
