He was the son of Mary Purdy, of 1, Fawdon Square, Coxlodge, Gosforth, and the late Henry Purdy, and the husband of Margaret Jane Purdy, of 4, Irton Street, Gosforth.
Morpeth Herald 29/09/1916 carries a brief obituary:
Mrs Purdy, Gosforth, has been unofficially informed that her husband, Private J. Purdy, has been killed.
He is remembered at Gosforth as Purdey, J.H. on G9.21 and as J.H. Prudy on G.22
