In St.Nicholas Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 1378823 Sergeant (Air Gunner) Arthur Wilson Savage serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 17/01/1942.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
my dear husband
Sgt. Arthur Wilson Savage, A.G. R.A.F.
killed on active service Jan. 17th 1942
aged 29 years.

He was serving with 27 OTU. He was a crew member of Wellington IC X9706 which took off from Lichfield on a training exercise. The aircraft crashed in poor weather after the compass had failed and there was uncertainty of their position. All the crew were killed.
