Master Kirby was in command of S.S. "Empire Lawrence". He died of natural causes at sea on the 6th March 1942.
When his medals were forwarded to his wife Eva, she was residing at 84, Wansbeck Avenue, Cullercoats.
His son, also called Thomas Rayne Kirby died in 1941.
