Boydell, E., W/Off., 1945
In Rheinberg War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 953737 Warrant Officer Eric Boydell, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 21/02/1945.

He was a member of the 62nd Scout Troop attached to Gosforth Grammar School.

W/O Boydell was serving with 76 Squadron. He was a crew member of Halifax III NR121 MP-E which took off from Holme-on-Spalding-Moor on a mission to Worms. The aircraft crashed 10 kilometres from the centre of Worms, killing all the crew.

I have the crew picture of the Halifax Bomber NR-121MPE. The two RAF VR Crew are on the far right. I’m not too sure which one is Eric Boydell. I think he’s probably the chap standing far right as he looks a little older than Joseph Faulkner. Eric was 24 and Joseph aged 20.

My grandfather was William Brown Mallen, Navigator. A fact that I have only known for the last couple of months.
