In Wallsend Church Bank Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Third Engineer James Herbert Currie, serving with the Mercantile Marine who died 09/01/1919.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Jane Currie
who died at Rose Hill
March 7th 1895
aged 81 years.
A Pious Woman and Loving Mother.
Also John Currie
Master Mariner
beloved son of the above and dear
husband of Meggie Currie
died June 28th 1918 aged 71 years,
Meggie his dearly loved wife
died April 24th 1926 aged 67.
Lord Thou hast been our
Dwelling place in all generations.
Also their son John T.R. Currie
Chief Engineer
who lost his life when
the S.S. Whitgift was mined
through enemy submarine action
April 20th 1916, aged 33 years.
Also their son James H. Currie
Engineer
who lost his life when H.M. Transport
Northumbria was mined in the North Sea.
January 9th 1919 aged 29 years.
