In Wallsend Church Bank Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In Loving Memory of
Joseph
the beloved husband of
Mary Armstrong
who died April 15th 1917
aged 57 years.
Also Thomas Alfred
son of above
late Royal Engineers
who died July 16th 1917
aged 25 years.
Also the above
Mary Armstrong
who died Aug. 31st 1947
aged 87 years.

Thomas Alfred Armstrong served as Sapper 1545 with the Royal Engineers. He went to France August 7th 1915. However he became ill with tuberculous and was discharged January 15th 1916.

Recipient of the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

There is no CWGC entry for Thomas.

He is remembered in Wallsend on W7.03, W7.04 and W7.19 page 12
