Edward Porter
He resided at 27 Mayfair Street, West Hartlepool.
He was a Gang Platelayer from the Docks Engineer Department at West Hartlepool.
He joined the North Eastern Railway in March 1913. He was a reservist having previously served for nine years with the 1st West Yorkshire Regiment, seven of these in India.
On August 5th 1914 he was called upon to re-join his regiment at Lichfield and soon afterwards went to France.
He was reported killed in action in France on September 20th 1914. He was only 29 years of age, and left a widow and one child.
Until the sad news of his death was conveyed to Mrs Porter by the War Office, she had received only one postcard from her husband, and had been of the opinion that he had been taken prisoner.
