In Lower Fahan (Christ Church) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of 915946 Able Seaman William Stanley Sheriff, serving with the Mercantile Marine Reserve who died 30/04/1918.

William served on R.F.A. Dapper which was a Salvage vessel.

He was the son of Hannah Sheriff, of 129, Hyde Street, South Shields, and the late Capt. J. M. Sheriff.

His headstone is in Donegal.

William Stanley Sheriff is remembered in South Shields on S86.027 and on our List of Ships’ crews.
