The Shields Gazette 30/06/1941 reports:
“Mr. Fred G. Marsh, Deer Lodge, South Shields, has received official notification from the Air Ministry that his son, Pilot Officer KGA Marsh, or ‘Ken’ as he is more familiarly known by lawn tennis enthusiasts and players throughout the North of England, was one of the most promising juniors of the 1930-1933 period."
Although his name is listed in the Bomber Command Roll of Honour, the details of any incident in which P.Off. Marsh died do not appear in the Bomber Command Losses books.
He is listed as serving with 82 (United Provinces) Sqdn, which were detached from RAF Watton in Norfolk to Malta in sections during the period May-July 1941. They took part in operations flying Blenheim Mark IVs over the Mediterranean but the history of the detachment after July 1941 is unknown. Subsequent detachments were made to Odiham, Lossiemouth and Tangmere prior to moving to Karachi in India in May 1942. The Squadron was disbanded in Madras in March 15th 1946.
Bomber Squadrons of the R.A.F. and their Aircraft; Philip Moyes; 1964; Macdonald & Co.
It seems likely, therefore, that P.Officer Marsh was killed in operations from Malta.
