Cable, J., Pte awarded M.M. 1916

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 24/08/1916 reports:

Two more South Shields soldiers have been awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery on the field, namely Private J. Cable and Private A.A. Bell, both of the Northumberland Fusiliers. Private Cable, who is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Cable, 28 Albemarle Street, was a miner employed at Whitburn Colliery before joining the colours, while Private Bell, who resides at 38 Robinson Street, was engaged as a painter prior to the war. Both men have gained the distinction through bringing in wounded from 'No Man's Land' during heavy fire.
