Sgt. White was killed when Avro Lancaster I L7547 EM-M of 207 Squadron was lost on a mission to Milan. The Lancaster suffered an engine fire in the port outer engine on the homeward journey, and crashed at St. Brisson, with the loss of five of the seven crew - the remaining two crew members escaped and evaded capture.
