Septimus Sloane
son of the above
who was drowned at sea
Oct. 31st 1917,
aged 22 years.
"S.S. Phare" of 1,282 tons was carrying gas coal from the Tyne to London when she was hit by a torpedo from U-Boat UB-35, commanded by Oberleutnant zur See Karl Stöter, off Scarborough. 14 of her 18 crew died.
Septimus Sloane is remembered in South Shields on S86.053 and on our List of Ships’ crews.
