Cotterill, G.E., Pte., 1918
In South Shields Harton Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 19/1392 Private George Edward Cotterill serving with the 'E' Company, 19th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (2nd Tyneside Pioneers) who died 02/11/1918.

George Edward Cotterill was born in Thornaby in 1898. He was the son of George (a painter) and Hannah Cotterill. They lived at 35 Imeary Street, South Shields.

His sister in 1911 was a Student.

George worked for the N.E.R. in the Freight office as accountant clerk at Forth Banks Newcastle.

He enlisted in Newcastle and he died of pneumonia in Sunderland whilst on leave, aged 20 years and 11 months.

He is remembered at York on York Railway Memorial, at South Shields on S86.027, S86.90, S86.107 and in Newcastle on NUT010, and in NUT256 page 182
