In Busigny Communal Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 246414 Lance Corporal James Laing Kennedy serving with the Royal Engineers who died 28/10/1918.

He was born 17th October 1892.His father was a ships platelayer and was married to Annie. They resided at 18 Taylor Street. South Shields.

He was a teacher at Deans Road Boys School..

He was originally enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers where he was awarded the Military Medal. This was for bringing in wounded comrades under fire.

He then was transferred to the Royal Engineers and was serving with the 1st Field Survey Company.

He was killed in action on the 28th October 1918. He is remembered at South Shields on S86.105 and at Harton on H104.03
