He was the son of Wonford and Charlotte Cresswell (nee Clayton), of 32, Ashley Rd., South Shields. Born at South Shields 1st February 1893.
In 1901 he was residing at 115 Stanhope Road, but by 1911 had moved to Ashleigh Road.
He was aboard the SS Arca, 4,839grt, defensively-armed, a British tanker carrying benzene from Philadelphia to Portishead, when it was torpedoed on the 2nd October 1918 by UC-118.
There were 52 casualties
He is remembered at Harton on H104.03 and on our List of Ships’ crews
