Barnfather, F., Pte., 1917
In Jerusalem War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 535438 Private Frederick Barnfather, serving with the London Regiment (Prince of Wales' Own Civil Service Rifles) who died 08/12/1917.

Frederick Barnfather was born 29th July 1894, in Weetslade, Northumberland, and he was the son of William and Annie Barnfather, of South Shields.

He resided at various addresses in 1891, Railway Cottages, Long Benton. 1901, 61 George Scott Street. 1908, 20 Osborne Avenue and in 1911, 209 St Vincent Street. This was due to both of his parents dying and he moved in with his relatives.

He was a civil servant and was employed as a Customs and Excise officer with the Inland Revenue.

[The Inland Revenue were one of the first Civil Service departments to raise a corps.]

He was killed in action on the 8th December 1917 in the campaign to capture Jerusalem. Aged 23.

General Allenby's plan was to encircle the city of Jerusalem.

He is remembered at Harton on H104.03
