In Caix British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of R/5632 Private David Mitchell, serving with the 31st Battalion Canadian Infantry, who died 09/08/1918.

He enlisted in the 31st Canadian Infantry Battalion, with the serial number 115632.

Son of James Edwin (a stationary engine-driver) and Lavinia Mitchell (née Greenwood) of Lo Pine Street, Tacoma, Washington, U.S.A.

His father was born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, and was 35 in 1901. His mother was born at South Stockton, Yorkshire, and was 31 in 1901. They were married on 13 January 1890. Their marriage was registered in South Shields during the March quarter of 1890. In 1891 the family was living at 34 Derby Street, South Shields, and in 1901 resided at 34 Somerset Street, South Shields.

Grandmother: Maria Mitchell – born in Kirkheaton and a 71-year old retired cook and confectioner in 1901. Siblings (1901 ages; all born in South Shields): Joshua Greenwood (9; June q. 1891), John (8; March q. 1893) and Isabella Huntley (0; March q. 1901).

Born in South Shields. His birth was registered in South Shields during the March quarter of 1895.
