Chapman, M.D., V.A.D. Nurse 1918

In Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Nurse Marion Dorothy Chapman, V.A.D. (Voluntary Aid Detachment), who died 10/08/1918.

She was born in South Shields on the 10th September 1890.Daughter of Henry (a Chartered Accountant) and Dora Chapman (née Gibson) of Westoe Village, South Shields. She had seven brothers:

Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Chapman D.S.O., 4th (Northumbrian) Howitzer Brigade RFA, died 31st July 1963, aged 83;

Major Charles Lancelot Chapman M.C. + M. in D., ‘D’ Battery 173 Brigade RFA, died of Wounds 22nd August 1917, aged 25;

Laurence Alfred Chapman (18th March 1886 – 3rd February 1943) and

Dr. Frederick Ernest Chapman.
