In Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 35358 Private John Summerbell, serving with the 12/13th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 28/03/1918.

The information given below in respect of some of the brethren is the best possible conclusions from Lodge records, Grand Lodge records, Commonwealth War Graves Commission and data in respect of merchant ship losses during the First World War

He born at South Shields. A Master Mariner he was Initiated on the 1st October 1907; Passed 109th December 1907 and Raised on the 4th February 1908. He enlisted at Middlesbrough and died on the 28th March 1918 aged 39 and is buried in Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France, Grave Reference IV.D.11.

However, other sources say he was in the 8th D.L.I.

He is remembered at South Shields on S86.039, S86.08 and S86.082
