In Gwalia Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 15014 Private George James Middlemass serving with the 6th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment who died 06/07/1917.

Dearer to memory than words can tell Ever remembered by all.

Son of the late John George and Janet Middlemass, of Hebburn-on-Tyne, Co. Durham.

In Hebburn Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

Middlemass who died Sept. 17th 1903
aged 53 years
Also George James son of the above
who died from wounds received in action
in France July 6th 1917 aged 25 years
Also the above John George
Middlemass who died Aug. 5th 1920
aged 73 years

George James Middlemass is not remembered on a local War Memorial.
