Adam Atkinson 6th Platoon B Coy Tyneside Irish

24/1598 Private Adam Atkinson, 6th Platoon, B Company, 24th (1st Tyneside Irish) Northumberland Fusiliers was the son of John Wright Atkinson and Martha Ann Atkinson. Husband of Louisa Alice Maud Atkinson (nee Catchpole) of 25 Dunston Street, Hebburn. He was married on 23rd December 1905-South Shields. He was born in Hebburn but had enlisted at Jarrow. He arrived in France on the 11th January 1916.

He was killed on the 1st July 1916 attacking the La Boiselle position. Aged 31.

War Diary entry reads: Attack on La Boiselle-advanced from assembly positions in Tara-Usna line 7.40am. In support of 101st Brigade. Heavy casualties moving forward to British front line and in [an] attack up Sausage Valley. Few reached objective. Casualties - 650.

He is remembered at Hebburn on H93.45
