In Poelcapelle British Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 27942 Private Robert William Veale serving with the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards who died 14/10/1917.

In Hebburn Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

Pte. Robert William Veale
Grenadier Guards
dearly and only beloved son of
James Oliver and Mary Veale
who fell in action at Houthulst Forest
Oct. 14th 1917 aged 24 years
Interred in France
Also Phyllis their daughter
who died June 2nd 1900
aged 1 year 10 months
The above James Oliver Veale
died Jan. 9th 1925 aged 52 years
also the above Mary
died Oct. 7th 1942 aged 71 years
Also their daughter Amelia Jane Bell
died Oct. 18th 1974 aged 78 years
beloved wife of John
Also Ethel Anne Veale
died Aug. 27th 1977 aged 70 years
