Dr Martin's Home. Coroner's Report Number 390 24th August 1917:
"Emerson Ruddock Salkeld 45 Years. Seagoing Chief Engr. 118 Westoe Road, South Shields, died in Dr Martin's Private House, Eslington Towers, Jesmond at 1 pm on 23rd August 1917.
Deceased died from blood poisoning from an abscess in the peritoneum of the bowels received when his ship the SS Nevisbrook was torpedoed by a German Submarine 100 miles off the Irish Coast on Friday 20th July 1917."
