Griffiths, T., Pte., 1966
The Durham Chronicle 04/03/1966 reports that efforts to bring back the body of Pte. Thomas Griffiths by his mother had been refused. He would be buried in Singapore. Private Thomas joined the D.L.I. in 1963 on a nine-year engagement, and was serving his second tour of duty on Borneo. He was killed in a border security operation on February 26th 1966.

A memorial service for Pte. Griffiths was held in Shotton Colliery was held in St.Saviour's church.

His brother Robert was also serving with the D.L.I. in Borneo but in a different platoon.

His father had served with the D.L.I. for two years in 1939-45 and died in 1951 from war wounds.

The family lived at 20 Keir Hardy Terrace.
