Raine, J.E., ERA2., 1919
In Sunderland (Ryhope) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of M/20555 Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class John Edward Raine, serving with the Royal Navy who died 25/10/1919.

The following is provided by Elaine Hope, his great-granddaughter. Her grandmother was Madge, who loved her father dearly.

John Edward Raine was born in Seaham, in 1876. He married Catherine Graham in Seaham in 1900. They had two daughters; Madge was born 22/5/1901 and Norah, who was born in 1908 and died in 1914.

He is remembered at Sunderland on S140.048 page 160 and on our List of Ships’ crews
