Unknown seamen, 1918

In Heselden churchyard are two Commonwealth War Grave headstones, both of which read:

Two Seamen
of the Great War
Trawler "Rambler"
26th February 1918

There are four sailors lying here, two buried in each grave.

The trawler "Rambler" of 92 tons was hit by a mine 4 miles east of Blyth. 9 men were killed including the skipper.

The graves of these unknown seamen are included on our List of Ships’ crews
