Sergeant Errington was killed when Short Stirling III EF392 MG-N of 7 Squadron was lost on a mission to Wuppertal. The Stirling is believed to have been shot down by Lt. Heinz Struning on 2./NJG1 at 03.02, and crashed into the North Sea with the loss of all eight crew.

Stirling EF392 MG-N had departed Oakington at 2328 for Ops Wuppertal. It was intercepted at 250M, over the North Sea, 80km W of Katwijk by a Night-Fighter captained by Nacht Jagd “Experten” Hptm Wittgenstein (Stab IV/NJG5 – detached to 1/NJG1) and shot down at 0250 for his 33rd Abschuss.
