In New Irish Farm Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant R.C. Johnson, serving with the Royal Engineers, who died 31/07/1917.

His name is listed in the University of Edinburgh Roll of Honour The entry reads:

Johnson, Richard Colling (b.1894).
Darlington Grammar School. Student of Science, 1912-15. O.T.C. Infantry, Oct. to Dec. 1914, Cadet. 13th Durham Light Infantry, 2nd Lieut. R.E. (Special Brigade), Lieut. Killed in action on 31st July 1917.

He is remembered at Darlington on D40.21 , D40.29 and D40.34
