Sgt. Hodgson was serving with 106 Sqdn. He was a crew member of Lancaster I R5844 ZN- which took off from Coningsby on a mission to Essen. All the crew were killed and buried in Germany.

Lancaster R5844 ZN-? had departed Coningsby at 0045 for Ops Essen. It was engaged by 3/Res Flak Abt 133, hit and shot down. The aircraft crashed near Dusseldorf-Eller at 0130.
