Raine, B.L., Pte., 1942
On the Alamein Memorial is the name of 7597445 Private Brian Leslie Raine, serving with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps who died 14/11/1942.

Rev. David Youngson has submitted the following:

7597445 Private RAINE Brian Leslie
(This is the identification from CWGC)
Royal Army Ordnance Corps

The son of John and Elizabeth Raine of Fairfield, County Durham. He was killed in action on the 14th November 1942 aged 22 and is Remembered on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt, Column 84.

Editor’s note: His name is recorded in the Book of Remembrance 1939-1945 in Stockton Parish Church. His corps is listed as Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers and this probably correct as many RAOC personnel with engineering qualifications were transferred into the REME.

Daryl-Mary Douthwaite says:

Brian Raine was my uncle, son of my beloved Grandparents and brother of my mum Audrey Raine and my Auntie Jacqueline Raine.

Thank you for keeping the memory of these loved ones alive.

Private Raine was a prisoner of war being transported to Italy in S.S. Scillin which was sunk by a British warship. See link below.

Brian Leslie Raine is remembered in Stockton on S138.19 and S138.52
