On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of Lieutenant Wilfred Rowland James, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 16/09/1916.

The son of the late Edward S. James and Clara James of 63 Westbourne Grove, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough formerly of Stockton-on-Tees. He was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on the 16th September 1916 aged 19. He is Remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, Pier and Face 14A and 15C. His name appears in the Book of Remembrance situated in the DLI Chapel at Durham Cathedral.

He is remembered in Stockton on S138.15 and S138.18 page 30 and in Durham on D47.013 page 245
