On the Runnemede Memorial is the name of 90279 Flight Lieutenant William Ernest Gore, serving with the Royal Air Force (Auxiliary Air Force) who died 28/09/1940.

The son of George Ernest Gore and Edith Gore of Brighton, Sussex. A native of Middlesbrough he attended Red House School, Norton Green. He obtained a B.Sc. at Durham University and was an Electrical Engineer with A. Reyrolle Research at Hebburn-on-Tyne. He was a Section Leader of 607 Squadron flying Hurricanes. In 1940 he led his section which intercepted and shot down three German He111s over France for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 31st May 1940. He was with 54 Squadron for a month before returning to 607 Squadron. Flying a Hurricane Fighter (P3108) he was shot down by a German Bf109 over Selsey and crashed into the English Channel on 28th September 1940 aged 25. He is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey, Panel 4.

His brother John Lionel also died.
