Menin Gate Memorial

On the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial is the name of 47737 Private John Ferry, serving with the 2nd Battalion (106th Foot) Durham Light Infantry who died 09/08/1915.

John Ferry was the second son of George Clark Ferry, and his wife Margaret, daughter of William Gill. Born in Deptford, Sunderland, was educated at the Simpson Street School in Sunderland.

He enlisted in 1908, and was sent to France on the 1st November 1914. He was part of the 5th wave of reinforcements for the 2nd DLI.

John was killed in action at Hooge on the 9th August 1915.

The Trench position G6 is the rough location of the 2nd Durham Light Infantry. See map below.
