SUNDERLAND

MacKenzie, (McKenzie) F.S., Pte., 1918

Newcastle Journal Tuesday 30th April 1918

In Aval Wood Military Cemetery, Vieux-Berquin, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 275347 Private Frederick Smith Mckenzie, serving with "C" Company, 1/7th (Territorial) Battalion Durham Light Infantry, who died 11/04/1918.

Frederick was born on the 22nd April 1897 in Sunderland, son of Alexander Dodds MacKenzie and his wife Elizabeth Ann (now wife of Thomas Harrison, Sunderland, 100 St Luke's Road, Pallion.)

Frederick was educated at St Joseph's School and was a Printer's Moulder at Messrs, Lynn and Co., Sunderland.

He enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry on the 10th May 1914, and served in France and Flanders from the 26th June 1915. He died on the 11th April 1918, from wounds received in action at Merville, earlier in the day, on the road to Russell Farm.

He was unmarried.

Note: his surname has been spelt as Mckenzie on some records.
