Moore, A.E., Pte. 1914

In Sissonne British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 8802 Private A. Moore, serving with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 21/09/1914.

Albert E. Moore was born in Thornley, Sunderland.

He was employed by the NER at Sunderland as a spare passenger porter.

He died from wounds in France on the 21st September 1914. Official notification of his death has only come to hand recently. A Memorial service was held at St Paul's Church at Hendon on November the 5th. He was 27 years of age and left a widow and two children.

The photograph accompanying this article is reproduced from a group photograph taken while he was in camp at Cambridge just before going to the front.

He was awarded the 1914 Mons Star.
