In Boulogne Eastern Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2605 Private Robert Thomas serving with 1/7th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry who died 05/05/1915.

Robert was born 26th December 1894, the second son of James Brotherston, of Rowlandson Terrace, Sunderland. Engineer, and his wife Jeannie, daughter of Alexander Henderson.

Robert had been educated at the Cowen Terrace Juvenile School, then at Argyle House School, Sunderland.

He enlisted with the 1/7th Battalion Durham Light Infantry on the 6th September 1914.

He died at the Stationary Hospital, Boulogne on the 5th May 1915, of wounds received in action.
