In Sunderland Bishopwearmouth Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 9255 Private Edward Dunstan Bellairs serving with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 20/07/1915.

He was born in Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, on the 29th September 1884 the son of Everard Dunstan Bellairs of 4 Paley Street, Sunderland and his wife Ellen, daughter of Henry Moon Clark, and grandson of Commander John Henry Bellairs R.N.

Edward enlisted with his brother in 1903, and served eight years in India. On the outbreak of war he re-joined and was wounded on the 20th September 1914, at the Battle of the Aisne and died in the Victoria Hospital at Blackpool 20th July 1915.

His brother William Bellairs, (Service Number 9160) was killed in the same action, and a third brother J. H. Bellairs who was in the 1/7th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, was wounded in France on the 26th May 1915, and was a prisoner of war in Germany.
