Thomas Robinson Cass was born at Sunderland 1877. His parents were David Cass from Coxwold Yearsley, Yorkshire and Jane Elizabeth Brunton from Whitby in the same county.
In 1891, Thomas was living at his parents’ house in Sunderland where his father was a stonemason and Thomas was still a scholar, aged 14.
The 1901 Census records Thomas living at 11, Vine Street, Sunderland, aged 23 and employed as a cartman.
Thomas was living at 2, Nicholson Street, Sunderland in 1911. At this time he was 34 years old, had been married for 12 years to Abigail and they had the following children: David 11, Stanley, 8, Richard 6 and Margaret aged 3. His occupation in 1911 was described as a labourer.
Military records show Thomas enlisted November 13th 1914 at Sunderland.
On his death his effects went to his wife Abigail who appeared still to be a widow at the end of 1919.
CWGC documents state Thomas he was the son of David and Jane Brunton Cass and the husband of Abigail Jane Cass of Sunderland Tyne and Wear.
John Sheens book ‘Tyneside Irish’ indicates Thomas was living at 6, Millburn Street, Sunderland before enlisting.
