Clark, A., Greaser, 1940
On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Greaser Anthony Clark, serving with the Merchant Navy who died 25/08/1940.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Anthony was born in Sunderland in 1920 to George and Jane (nee Hazard) and at the time of his death aged 20 he was living while ashore at 3, Bramwell Street, Sunderland.

Anthony was lost when the m.v. "Athelcrest" was sunk by torpedo on 25/08/1940.

Anthony had not been in the Merchant Navy for long as in the 1939 Register he is recorded as being a Screenman at a colliery. He was living at the Bramwell Street address with his parents, brother Mark and sister Wilhemina.

Anthony Clark is remembered in Sunderland on S140.159 and on our List of Ships’ crews
