Carter, G.H., 2nd Lieut., 1915
In Sunderland (Bishopwearmouth) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2nd Lieutenant George Herbert Carter serving with 2/4th Howitzer Northumbrian Battery who died 18/11/1915.p>The Coroners report Number 516 Royal Victoria Infirmary dated 19th November 1915.

"George Herbert Carter aged 32 years. No 4 Esplanade, West Sunderland. 2nd Lieut. 2/4th Howitzer N/brian Battery. Died in 1st Northern General Hospital at 12.15am on [the] 18th.

Deceased died from fracture of the skull set up by his having been accidentally thrown from his horse on the Town Moor on Wednesday 17th Nov. 1915 in consequence of the bit having broken."
