The Northerner, Vol. XIX, no. 1, December 1918, page 6 reports the following, transcribed by Tony Harding:
'Second-Lieutenant J.K. Mitchell, R.A.F., killed in action on August 10th, son of Mr. G.M. Mitchell, veterinary surgeon of Sunderland. He was educated at the Bede Collegiate and Argyle House Schools, Sunderland, and was a student of the College of Medicine when he joined the Army. He was 19 years of age.'
